Dan Quayle's famous misspelling of potato

The most famous misspelling I can remember is Dan Quayle's famous misspelling of potato as 'potatoe'. This caused him great embarrassment in the 1992 election. However, you should know that technically Quayle would have been right in 1880. Potatoe, according to our friend wikipedia, was an archaic spelling for potato that was in use at least until 1880. Check it out here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potatoe).

Anyone else know of any famous misspellings? Does anyone have an example of a misspelling that changed history? Email to me Jon@ideas4now.com!

The Problems of English spelling system.

Wiki: Misspelling refers to spelling a word incorrectly. Misspelling is distinguished from other errors in writing, such as grammatical errors, incorrect capitalization or misuse of punctuation. A misspelled word can be a series of letters that represents no correctly spelt word at all (such as "liek" for "like") or a correct spelling of another word (such as writing "here" when one means "hear", or "now" when one means "know"). Misspellings of the latter type can easily make their way into printed material, because they cannot be caught by computerized spell-checkers.
